What's a double materiality assessment (and what did we find)?

Every business could care about a long list of things. We wanted to know which ones matter most, for the planet, for the people connected to our business, and for us. So in 2026 we ran a double materiality assessment with an external sustainability partner, heard from more than 30 people inside and outside the business, and checked our thinking against recognised standards, including B Corp™.

What does "material" mean here?

A topic is material when we have a meaningful impact on it, it has a meaningful impact on us, or both. If something isn't in the list below, it doesn't mean we've forgotten about it. It's often folded into one of the six topics. Water's a good example: it matters heaps to us, and we manage it as part of how we work with our suppliers.

The six things we're focused on:

  • Material sourcing and efficiency: the materials we choose (think bamboo and recycled fibres) and how well we use them, packaging included.
  • Energy and climate: the energy it takes to make, move and deliver our products, and the emissions that come with it, including our supply chain.
  • Impact of products: whether our products deliver on their promise, and whether we can back up every claim we make about them. All products are designed with sustainability in mind, and we donate 50% of our profits to non-profits working on clean water and sanitation.
  • Supply chain management: how we work with and keep oversight of the environmental and social practices of partners who make our products, since we don't own any factories ourselves.
  • Talent attraction and retention: building and keeping a purpose-driven, diverse and globally distributed team. We want our people to reflect the communities we work in, and to feel a genuine sense of belonging from day one.
  • Sustainability principles: the governance and know-how that keeps every commitment on this list honest, including how we report on our progress (this article included).

How did we land on these six?

We worked through it with sustainability experts, heard from more than 30 people inside and outside the business, and benchmarked our thinking against recognised standards including B Corp™. We'll revisit the list as we grow and as the world around us changes.
