Our food scrap bags are made with plant matter and are compostable. They are leak & tear-resistant and come with easy tie handles.

Over 1 billion (with a b!) metric tonnes of food is wasted every year and a lot of that ends up in landfills. It’s terribly wasteful, but it’s also terrible for the environment – 8% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste. But composting can help make a big difference. These compostable bags make it easier to keep food waste out of landfills, allowing it to break down and turn back into useful organic matter. Amazing!

How long do the Compost Bags take to break down?

Our Compostable Food Scrap Bags break down within 3 months in an industrial compost facility.

Can I use these bags for waste going to a landfill too?

Please don’t! Since landfills are designed to prevent biodegradation, recycled plastic is the most sustainable option for anything going there. Recycled plastic has the least impact in terms of sourcing and production and doesn't break down anaerobically, helping to reduce methane.

Why didn’t you make biodegradable bags?

It’s always best to reuse, recycle, or compost when possible. However, some waste will inevitably end up in landfills. Landfills are designed to prevent biodegradation, because when materials degrade in them, they produce more methane. Because of this, recycled plastic is the more sustainable option since it generates very minimal methane over long time periods. Compostable starch plastic bags have a large climate impact when put into landfills since they generate methane when they biodegrade, and should only be used when they end up at a compost facility.
