When we set up new production relationships we carry out product quality, environmental and ethical due diligence to make sure that we're happy with the product that's being produced as well as how it's produced. Unlike a lot of producers, we visit each production facility several times throughout each year to ensure everything is working smoothly, and the guidelines that we set across these three pillars are being constantly upheld.
In terms of certifications, at our request, our recycled paper producer has been independently audited and certified under the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) accreditation scheme, and by the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). The FSC accreditation is predominantly an environmental certification, and the BSCI audit focuses on driving social compliance and improvements in global supply chain management. The audit scored our producer the highest grade available across multiple categories including workers rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining, no discrimination, no child labour, no precarious employment, no bonded labour, and ethical business behaviours. They also scored highly in the category of fair remuneration. Of course there's always room for improvement and we will be working closely with our producers to ensure a transparent working relationship.
We're certified as a B Corp which is a more holistic measure of the our overall ethics and social and environmental impact. We're also looking at new certifications we can take on now that we're growing in size!
