What is the sponge made of?

Our two-sided sponge is made with plant-based materials. The scrubbing side is made of natural, durable loofah — a fast-growing plant in the gourd family that’s been tackling stuck-on food for centuries. The sponge side is responsibly sourced wood pulp cellulose — highly absorbent and ready for what your sink dishes out. The print is made from water-based inks.

How durable is the sponge?

Our sponges last 4 weeks on average. When they need a refresh, just toss them in the dishwasher, microwave or a pot of boiling water to sanitise.

Is the sponge plastic-free?

We're proud to say that our Sponge Scourers are made from plant-based materials.

The water-based ink used on the surface of the Sponge Scourers contains a microscopic amount of polymer (0.12%) to make sure the ink on the sponge lasts. We've looked hard for a fully plastic-free ink that survives being soaked, scrubbed and cleaned repeatedly. We're not there yet, but we're still working on it.

Why include ink at all?

No shade on beige, but we believe that eco-friendly products don’t have to be bland, boring and blah. By making our products more beautiful, we’re able to get more people on board, and more people means the more good we can do. While we continue to work to solve that final 0.12%, we want to make it easier for people to switch to a sustainable option — which helps bolster our mission to help give everyone access to clean water and a toilet.

Where are they manufactured?

Our sponges are made in China by a factory we work with directly. We're picky about who we work with — we choose our partners based on their sustainability practices, organisational ethics, quality, plus raw material management and transparency.
